Rita Kepner

Rita KepnerRita Kepner is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication (ERMCOC), Washington State University. Her research focuses on the Emergency Alert System used to warn people of impending events. Kepner taught media writing and public relations classes at ERMCOC and teaches a media criticism class, on-line, for City University of Seattle. As a disaster reservist for FEMA, Kepner has responded to more than 60 major disasters, helping survivors with information they needed for recovery. Earlier she edited newspapers for the Department of Defense in Germany and won awards for photo-journalism and radio broadcasting. Kepner is also a sculptor and licensed ship’s captain for vessels sail and power up to 50 tons. She earned listings in Marquis Who’s Who of the World, Who’s Who of American Art and the International Who’s Who of Women, among others.
